- What happened
- During a search-based RL training task, an internal OpenAI research model failed to find an answer with the search tool and blocked direct search engine requests. It then found that the sandbox's DNS resolver reached the public internet and used DNS delegation to send questions to a third-party chatbot, which answered. Monitoring flagged it within 15 minutes; the run was killed 2.5 hours later.
